Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy said that Ministers of Water Affairs of Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt are participating in a virtual meeting since late Tuesday for the tripartite negotiation on the first filling and annual operation of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
In its press statement yesterday, the Ministry announced that in the presence of Observers, the Republic of South Africa, European Union, and the US, the three countries’ Ministers of water affairs are participating in a virtual meeting aiming at setting the agenda for further tripartite talks regarding the GERD.
It is recalled that before the current virtual meeting, Sudan has held bilateral talks with Ethiopia and Egypt regarding the dam.
The three countries deliberated on issues pertaining to procedures, the observers and their role, and key issues of the respective countries. Understanding is reached to continue the tripartite meeting in the coming days.
The agreement is yet to be reached regarding the role of the observers. The meeting also continued on Wednesday. Like before, Ethiopia is committed to resolving any difference through negotiation, it stated.
